I am a qualified and experienced full-time Science tutor who supports students to achieve their full potential. My main specialism is Biology, and I can also assist students needing support with Chemistry and Physics.
With a great deal of teaching experience within schools, I understand the range of issues that young people face with learning and am able to use a variety of methods to build confidence and understanding of topics that students find difficult.
I have a patient, empathetic and positive manner which I use to encourage and empower students to achieve their best, whether they have an interest in Science at primary school or they are applying to university and in need of A-Level exam support.
As a skilled Science teacher, I have gained over 20 years experience working with young people within a variety of schools both in UK and internationally and across a range of exam boards (particularly AQA, Edexcel, OCR, IB) including:
* Head of Year 7 and Biology teacher at an independent school in Cheshire - developed and wrote schemes of work, participated in biology field trips and practical assessments. As a trained Mindfulness in Schools Practitioner, I integrated mindful sessions into the pastoral programme.
* Science teacher at Dubai English Speaking College - co-ordinated learning support within the department, led weekly Brainiac Science club sessions and mentored students with Extended Project Qualifications.
* Teacher of Science and Learning Support at JESS, Dubai - experience of International Baccalaureate (IB) and ran a Directed Studies course for Year 11 students and vocational IB students.
* Head of Biology at The British School Al Khubairat, where I helped to raise the Science Department's GCSE and A-Level results considerably.
* St Paul's Girls' School in London teaching students of a high academic calibre and involved in the preparation for entry to university, including mock interviews, personal statement review and giving advice on extended projects.
* Throughout my career, I have attended many professional development courses, including coaching, performance mindset, practical skills, autism in the classroom, conflict resolution, developed cross-curricular projects and participated in a "Good to Excellent" teaching consortium.
* I have privately tutored many individuals and small groups of students and have worked with students who are in need of support with their school studies and those who are home-schooled or who cannot study in a school environment.
* I have worked as an examiner for AQA and OCR exam boards to maintain up to date knowledge of the curriculum and gain valuable insights into the responses required within GCSE and A-Level exams.
I’m an approachable and friendly tutor who is able to provide personalised tutoring sessions to help students to build confidence and enjoyment of their understanding of Science.
I personalise my approach to match the needs of my students and apply the philosophy that there is "no such thing as a stupid question!"
I draw on my many years of teaching experience to unpick misconceptions, reinforce previous learning and build and develop a deeper understanding of topics across Biology at GCSE and A-Level/IB level and Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level.
I work with students at all academic levels - making topics more accessible for students who are struggling to pass exams and stretching the most able.
I provide exam techniques to boost success in exams and I can offer practice exam questions that will focus on subject matter needing reinforcement through targeted self-study. These can then be returned to me for marking and feedback. In the following session, I like to go through this feedback with this student and agree further targeted work and suggest resources where needed.
I offer 1:1 sessions and group sessions where appropriate.
I have conducted many student interviews and am able to offer advice and conduct mock interviews for both entrance exams and for assistance in university applications.
