Maths and English Teacher in Cannock

I am an organised person who enjoys spending time planning and preparing lessons that allow all children to be included in all areas of the curriculum. In addition, I have experience of attending Parent Consultation Evenings where I have reported the progress of pupils as well as conducting Parent Engagement Days (bringing parents into school) on different themes. I have also used class dojo to share the learning and events that take place within our classroom on a daily basis, post homework and communicate with parents. This year, I have organised a week’s worth of Art events, to celebrate Slow Art Week, bringing in a number of different artists from our local community to work with the different year groups and all year groups to attend Walsall Art Gallery to explore art outside of the classroom. When I have had feedback from my line managers, they have also commented on my outstanding communication, interpersonal skills and friendliness. Outside of school, I like to spend time with my family, getting outdoors with my local Beaver Scout group (which I have run for the past 10 years), exploring the history and nature of other countries, and being creative. Most recently, I took up running and completed the couch to 5k program with my local running group in April, continuing to run with them and develop my new hobby moving forward.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a unqualified and then qualified teacher at Littleton Green Community School, Cannock for the past 12 years. I have worked across the key stages and am experienced in delivering teaching across the school, from Reception, and am well prepared on knowing where the children need to be for the future, however due to my knowledge and experience, I have led both the year 5 and year 6 teams at school achieving outstanding SAT results. I have a love of Mathematics, History and the Sciences and a technical skill for English and grammar. In my role as Art lead, I have designed our current Art curriculum, using the Department of Education guidelines from Early Years to Key Stage 2. I have mapped out the developmental stages and planned for mastery within my schema, along with exposing our children to a range of diverse artists and art movements to broaden their experiences of the world in which we live, identified through my own self-led CPD. I have led Staff meetings to share my ambitions in this area, given guidance to teachers on how to implement the scheme, team planned for those who have requested further support and team taught to share skills and expectations, monitoring assessments of pupils are accurate and recording them successfully on our records system, all to ensure we are compliant and confident in the delivery of the new art curriculum.
To further support my experience profilea, I would like to share the following information:
-I am currently on the NPQLTD course through Ambition Institute, which is due to be completed in October 2024
-I have had a wide range of HLTA teaching experience throughout the whole school
I have been part of a successful Year 6 team over 2018 to 2022, where the results have risen and the pupils have made excellent progress, both academically and personally
-I am very experienced with preparing for Year 6 SATs, including the expectations for writing and have a strong knowledge of grammar progression through the different year groups
-I have led a range of interventions in KS2 so have a sound knowledge of how children learn and how to support pupils with SEND
-I have developed my teaching style over the last seven years, observing and working alongside experienced teachers who specialise in English, Maths, Science and Humanities, and now am part of this process to support new and early career teachers
-I have been part of planning for the revised curriculum, and I can plan a progressive scheme of work including developing medium-term plans. I also understand the importance of building ‘sticky’ knowledge and tier three vocabulary
I have contributed to the wider curriculum by attending residential visits, educational visits and taking pupils to a range of sporting events
-I believe I have strengths in Maths, Literacy, Science and History; building positive relationships with all stakeholders, including parents; and Behaviour Management.

Tutoring Approach

I like to have an engaging and curious classroom, where children can learn, and the learning sparks their interests to become life-long learners. I have a real passion for educating young people and I feel this is reflected within my teaching as I try to make my lessons as engaging and relevant as possible, so that my pupils are inspired to learn. Furthermore, I try to ensure that my pupils have a balance of opportunities to either collaborate with others or work independently; this is something that I know they need to be able to do for when they leave school. Additionally, I pride myself on the positive relationships I establish with my children, which allows them to learn within a safe, nurturing environment so that life-long learning skills are taking place.
