To all my students I am simply known as 'Jim'. I worked as a research chemist for over 25 years and after retirement transitioned into teaching chemistry. I have always had a true passion for teaching making me a dedicated tutor. I take pride in watching my students achieve their full potential and this happens when students begin to enjoy chemistry and not fear it hence the learning experience must be fun!
I have been privately tutoring through agencies since 2005 and have also worked full time in a private tutorial college and four years at an all boys grammar school.
I have experience and an ease in teaching all the chemistry boards.:
Nuffield Edexcel
Edexcel
OCR
OCR Salters
AQA
WJEC
With my many years of experience I am capable of adapting to the needs and learning styles of my students. I like to fully involve my students to actively engage them into learning. I am always very supportive and in return I require full co-operation and hard work.
I want to see all my students grow in confidence and become comfortable with their material and that is why I like to teach through asking my students guided questions that help them arrive to the solution themselves. This is when teaching translates to learning.
I understand how important succeeding in exams is for university entrance so I also put emphasis on exam technique by working closely with past papers and by doing many practice problems so my students become familiar with the way questions are asked and what is expected in the exam setting.
