I am a doctoral graduate who has worked in the charity, education and training sector, supporting schools, colleges and adult education services to improve their maths and English teaching.
I have expertise in, and a passion for, Drama, English (Literature and Language) and Philosophy.
I am confident, personable, punctual and have helped a range of learners (from key stage 2 to undergraduate level) achieve the results they want whilst also developing a more well-rounded understanding of their given subject.
I have over 8 years of experience as a one-to-one tutor and university lecturer.
In these roles, I have devised and delivered lectures, seminars, one-on-one tuitions sessions and offered pastoral support to learners at different stages and of different abilities.
I have also worked with teaching staff to identify common barriers to learner progress and helped develop strategies and tactics to overcome these.
This experience has granted me a strong understanding of the content and demands of various exam boards and also provided me with keen insight into the challenges that students of all levels face.
I am also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a qualification given in recognition of commitment to excellence in teaching, and I have a current DBS/CRB certificate.
I adopt a flexible student-centric approach in my teaching that identifies and builds on a student's strengths and interests, raising their confidence. From here, I work with the student to identify and respond to the challenges they face, offering guidance throughout, but encouraging the student to formulate their own responses and develop strong reasoning for them.
By working in this way, I offer an adaptable, personable method that leads to engaged, positive learning that has proven more effective at achieving longer-lasting results than the drill-based tactics of lectures or learn-by-rote methods.
