I am an experienced tutor with a specialisation in humanities and social sciences at university level, and I achieved a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Oxford in 2020, going on to do a Postdoctoral Fellowship.
The research I conducted was interdisciplinary in nature and involved the application of a wide degree of knowledge and skills, which I love to employ in pedagogical settings.
My desire to tutor is driven first and foremost by a drive to share my knowledge, and to generate a passion for learning in others.
My academic success at world leading institutions - including the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge - spans across many disciplines; from philosophy and history, to the social sciences - including anthropology, sociology, politics, and cultural geography.
I have tutored GCSE and A-Level history, A-Level politics, and undergraduate philosophy, religious studies, sociology, political science, and international relations, as well as receiving tutor training at the University of Oxford for social and human sciences.
As well as teaching, I have advised on university applications and personal statements, and having attended both Oxford and Cambridge, am able to offer support in Oxbridge admissions.
I am a specialist in essay-writing technique, and have helped students in various social science and humanities degrees achieve firsts on major assignments, including undergraduate dissertations.
My aim is to work to enrich the relevant tutee's experience of the subject as a whole, as well as offering a good understanding of the particular assessment in question. I do this through a multimedia approach, curated to suit the learning style of each student. I aim to continuously reassess the student’s needs and to adapt based on their interests and way of learning.
My lessons are designed to maintain attention through diverse exercises, tasks, allowing for conversation to flow where it is clear the student’s interest is piqued and the engagement is productive and valuable. I often ask students to complete homework prior to each lesson in order to ensure I can understand where and how to direct my assistance.
On undergraduate essay support, I offer detailed feedback as quickly as I can, often in a matter of hours. This is charged at the same rate as lesson time, as I have found it to be the most instructive and efficient use of time, helping students to complete multiple drafts so as to refine their essays and achieve high grades.
