I have a degree in Astrophysics from Edinburgh University and did my PGCE at The University of Oxford. I worked as a Science and Physics teacher in the UK and overseas for 7 years. I taught combined and separate sciences at KS3 and KS4/GCSE and A level physics and mark AQA GSCE physics. I am currently doing a PHD in citizen centred AI at Northumbria University.
I have been teaching for over 7 years and have experience teaching students aged 11-18.
Engaging and professional tutor:
I find working with students who are struggling to understand key ideas in science particularly rewarding. My favourite moment in tutoring is seeing students realise they can do something that thought they couldn’t or when they can understood something that had confused them for years. This is why I take a student centred approach to tutoring. I like to identify areas where students have misconceptions and work to address these first as this is key to unlocking further learning. I try and link concepts in the curriculum to read world examples to keep the content engaging. I will also help you focus on your skill development, for example problem solving and resilience and these are key to any subjects success.
For exam year students we will work on curriculum knowledge and exam technique. I am particularly familiar the AQA exam board. Understanding how to pass an exam is a skill in itself and my experience being an exam marker helps me with this.
I look forward to going on a learning journey with you.
