I have a first class degree, and have undertaken post graduate study in Literature on two further occasions. While I am a specialist English teacher, I have considerable post-16 experience, and have expertise in A Level English Literature and tutoring (this includes supervising UCAS applications for a number of years). I am personable, widely read, cultured, and have travelled extensively. PLEASE NOTE: I AM AVAILABLE FOR FACE TO FACE TUITION FROM 18 FEB WITHIN A TEN MILE RADIUS OF BASLOW.
With over 25 years experience as an English teacher I am expert in all areas and all Key Stages of the English curriculum. I successfully taught GCSE (English Language and English Literature) and A Level (English Literature), as well as managing English Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 5. I also co-ordinated whole school Literacy at a large Midlands comprehensive school. I taught English to non-English speakers, and recently acted as Academic Intervention Mentor for Year 11 students. At a Sixth Form college, I worked as Catch-up Tutor for GCSE (re-sit), and Tutor for A level, Year 12 transition.
My approach is student centered. I listen carefully, conduct early diagnostic work and offer a wide range of services and solutions. At GCSE, for example, I teach Language and Literature, offering a course that integrates speaking and listening, reading and writing in order to consolidate and revise for examination. Alternatively, I can offer intense study to improve specific areas of study. At A level, the text always remains the focus of study, but with specific attention paid to the importance of Assessment Objectives, with the needs of the individual as key guiding principles.
