I am an enthusiastic teacher who is looking to supplement his income whilst training as a counselor. I have an enthusiasm for teaching English at all levels. I see English language as a springboard for students to achieve their aims whilst English literature encourages students to both develop their analytical skills and appreciate the wonder of our culture.
I have been a Secondary School teacher for the last 25 years. I have worked with students across the age range of 11 -18 in four comprehensive high schools. As a teacher, I developed skills in communication and interpersonal skills both within the classroom and in my role as a form teacher. In particular, I appreciated the opportunities to develop and encourage the young people whom I was teaching. I learnt that patience and time spent developing a rapport through remaining calm and supportive where invaluable in creating a successful classroom and feel that this is also vital to a tutor. It was vital in my role that I became a skilled multitasker who was able to plan effectively both in the short and long term and, again, I feel that this is transferable.
In this time I have had some experience of tutoring, mainly in school as a supplement to the curriculum but also through face to face tuition early in my career.
I have experience of teaching remotely through the Covid hit years. I learnt to plan and deliver lessons as well as support students on line.
My ethos is to create a positive ad supportive environment in my classroom where students are both challenged to succeed and given the responsibility to improve.
