I am a friendly and helpful career mathematician who enjoys helping with the subject and tutoring. I studied physics and applied mathematics at Cambridge and a mathematics PhD at Imperial, London.
I have worked for many years as an applied mathematician and tutored both GCSE and A Level maths and physics, and am familiar with the curriculum.
As a tutor I like to fully understand what the student finds difficult, any missing foundations, questions or concerns they have, and build confidence and skill in any weaker areas. It is a privilege to help students combine strong subject knowledge and targeted revision and exam mark skills to really maximise their grades. I'm happy to identify areas to focus on with them and provide patient explanation and learning by example, led by the student and adapted to their best way of learning. Once a method is fully understood, problems become easy to remember how to solve despite any initial fears. With targeted learning material and clear, encouraging explanations every student can enjoy achieving more. Past exam papers can be a very effective way of gaining confidence, and efficiency in managing timing and securing marks. Online tutoring I find very convenient and effective allowing use of resources and giving notes to refer back to.
