Having taught Maths in the classroom for over 40 years in selective, comprehensive and private schools, I know that one-to-one tutoring sees students make the most progress. I have tutored throughout my career and have always found it fulfilling. I enjoy helping a high flyer get into university and I enjoy helping a foundation student to raise their grade. I have taught and tutored Maths at KS3, GCSE and A level. Along with Pure Maths at A level, I have taught Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Maths. In my most recent school position I had responsibility for KS5 Maths across the Maths department.
Outside of teaching my family is very important to me and my main interests are watching and playing sport.

Tutoring Experience

My main tutoring has been KS3, GCSE and A level Maths, but I have also tutored Maths for teacher training assessment. Furthermore I have tutored for entrance exams as well as Physics up to A level. My tutoring has always generated personal recommendations, however having just moved house I am having to start over!

Tutoring Approach

In tutor lessons I would initially get to know the student a little. Then, using encouragement, help the student to build confidence and enjoyment of maths. Generally in lessons I would support a student with any problems arising from their school work and fill in gaps in the basic knowledge as they arise. If the student is ‘driven’ then we push ahead with what comes next on the course and this is when the top grades are achieved. I am happy using online resources as well as textbooks. Revision using past papers is essential closer to sitting exams.
