A maths graduate (Exeter), I have taught Maths to GCSE, A level and Further Maths for many years, and with considerable success. I can teach all A level and Further Maths topics and levels, as well as IB and also to QTS qualification. I am especially successful in both inspiring a growth in self confidence and in high quality exam preparation. I am CRB/DBS cleared.
I have taught in Upper Schools and Comprehensives, including being a Head of a large maths department. I have taught up to and including Further Maths, also IB and QTS qualifications. Even a trainee pilot for his exams!
Since the onset of Covid, I have also taught online. Students find it a natural and comfortable environment, with a personal one-to-one relationship on screen, with the added bonus of being comfortable in their own home surroundings. Parents like to be freed from the time and hassle of delivering and collecting their offspring! It is simple and effective with no necessary additional costs to the tutee/family.
I am always sensitive to the needs and fears of pupils, and succeed in inspiring trust and confidence in them after a very short time. Often school experience of maths teaching is unsatisfactory for many students, and personal tuition enables them to find their own pace and level.
eg. "We are so lucky to have found John on First Tutors! Our elder son would not have done so well at A level Maths without John's help. He is currently tutoring our younger son who is in his final year of Maths A level. [Son] really looks forward to his sessions with John. To quote [son]- "John is compassionate, very patient and has a real passion for maths. He always answers my endless questions with enthusiasm!". John instantly put both our sons at ease from the very first session. We cannot sing his praises enough. Thank you John!"
also "John is a knowledgeable and excellent Maths teacher who puts his heart into teaching. I wish I'd known him earlier. I strongly recommend him" and "First class. My son, David, required Maths and Further Maths A-level tuition, as some of the teaching art his school fell somewhat short. John hit the spot absolutely - and in addition gave (son) the added confidence he needed. Great work".
