Maths and Physics Teacher in Oxford

I have a BSc in Computer Science from UCL. I achieved top results at A-level (2 A*s and 2 As, with the A*'s being Maths and Further Maths) and GCSE (10A*s). I have a passion for teaching, especially Mathematics, and enjoy working with students of all ages.

Tutoring Experience

I have almost 10 years experience tutoring students of all ages in Maths and Physics, including doing full time tutoring for the last two years, taking about 10 GCSE and 10 A level students a year. This, combined with my own success at those levels have given me a good idea of what it takes for students to achieve top results in their school exams.
I taught Year 4 students Maths and English as part of a prefect program that had me working with them 3 days a week, giving me a good idea of how to approach tutoring younger students.
I volunteered as a teacher at a local chess club, specialising in helping lay the groundwork knowledge required for beginners to move on to the next level of the game.

Tutoring Approach

I have a patient and methodical style of tutoring. This leads from the fact that the science and maths that you learn at school level is an important framework for further education. Any holes in a students knowledge can become problematic as they progress further into their chosen field, and so a methodical approach is essential to ensure these problem areas are addressed. My patient style allows me to adjust the pace of learning to the needs of the student, and makes sure that the student is not left feeling frustrated or overwhelmed when difficult areas arise.

I fully realise that different students learn in different ways, and so I am more than happy to adjust how the student is taught the material to suit their needs. This could be anything from involving a heavier focus on exam questions, including work on exam question technique, (if exams are looming on the horizon), to using more puzzles and games to inspire a passion for the subject in a young learner.
