Hi! I'm Jonathan, I specialise in tutoring A-level Maths and Further Maths, though I am happy to teach GCSE and other levels. I am a well- qualified Teacher with 20 years experience teaching Mathematics at all levels from age 11-19, in addition to teaching postgraduate students as a Teacher educator I have a BSc(Hons.) in Mathematics, an MSc in Mathematical Logic, PGCE, QTS and a PGDip in teaching

Tutoring Experience

Throughout my teaching career I have tutored alongside my main job. I recently switched my focus and now work primarily as a private tutor. After qualifying as a teacher I taught for 5 years in a Secondary School in Leeds (year 7 to year 13.) I then moved to a Further Education college where I taught AS and A level Maths and Further maths for 8 years. I also taught Higher Tier GCSE resit classes in this role. After that I worked as the Maths lead for delivering teacher training and assessing trainee teachers for QTS status at the University of Manchester. This role lasted for four years. Throughout all these jobs I have tutored students privately and as a result I am very familiar with all the exam boards and all the modules for Maths and Further Maths A level. Before training to be a teacher. I am proud of the work I have done with students who have found themselves unable to attend school anymore. Before being a teacher I worked in various roles in the Mental Healthcare sector and I feel this has given me the skills to adapt my teaching to the particular needs of the student, rather than trying to make them fit into the traditional model of education.

Tutoring Approach

I aim to encourage students to achieve by first working on them improving their confidence in the subject. I approach every student as an individual and adapt my teaching style so that the student can learn in the most effective way. I am approachable and supportive and always strive to create an informal and respectful atmosphere so that students feel safe to take chances and try out solutions to problems. The tutoring sessions are only one part of the process and the best results are obtained when the student completes lots of homework for me in addition to the work they are completing for school. It is really this extra work that makes most of the difference in achievement.
