On the personal side, I am a family man. My wife works for a government department, my older daughter is an administrator and my younger daughter is a graduate with a degree in French and Politics. I play the guitar, bass guitar and chess.

Tutoring Experience

I started teaching in 1991 and tutoring in 1998. I have taught many students from different backgrounds with different abilities. I was the head of a college for many years. I have tutored at different levels from GCSE up to postgraduate degree level, for various examination boards including AQA, OCR, Eduqas and IGCSE. Subjects I have taught include Psychology, Sociology, Business Studies, Law, RE, Theology, Study Skills, Essay Writing Skills, Critical Thinking and Research Skills. I also offer a professional Proofreading service for university students. 2014 feedback from some of my students: (i) got a D at AS before, but after your help, got B at A2 yesterday [14 August 2014] (ii) achieved 1st class in my Sociology degree, thanks! (iii) got Bs in my A2 Law units, and A in unit 4; never had an A in anything before! (iv) got two As and two Bs, and gained entry to Uni of my choice (v) Thanks for your help in Psychology and Sociology through my illness, I got the grades I needed and my Uni first choice place (vi) passed my Foundation degree in Business Risk Management, thanks especially for teaching me PowerPoint, I'm now going on to an MBA.

Tutoring Approach

I can offer first lesson (30 minutes) free. I am very enthusiastic about teaching and ensuring all my students succeed, no matter their ability. I believe each student is unique and as a tutor I respect that uniqueness. I apply a student centred approach. My first step towards a new student would be to understand his or her specific needs in order to tailor prepare the tutoring to overcome those specific needs. Sometimes it is help with knowledge revision, at other times it has to do with learning skills, for some it is gaining familiarity with the subject and its concepts, while for others it might simply be an issue of low self-confidence with a new subject. I utilise different styles and strategies, depending on the student's learning needs and ability.

I have discovered that students at all levels tend to need help with study skills and essay writing skills, so I normally include this in any post-GCSE tutoring I do. Degree students have benefited from my proofreading services, which has always enhanced their grades, and this applies to any subject.

I always ensure that I give my best to my students and enable them to achieve their academic goals. I aim to continue to do so for a long time.
