I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester working on neural networks in the department of Biological Physics. I have recently graduated the University of Leeds with a Distinction in MSc Advanced Computer Science and I have a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield. I am an enthusiastic and experienced tutor in Computer Science and Maths, as well as offering programming lessons in many popular programming languages

Tutoring Experience

I have been an online tutor for 3 years, tutoring Maths and Computer Science to GCSE, A-Level and adult students. I have seen my students go on to score highly in A-Levels and seen come continue on to do Computer Science at university level.

I volunteered for two years at Altrincham Preparatory School as a teaching assistant, assisting with Year 3 IT classes. I also planned and delivered an extra-curricular programming class aimed at Year 6 students.

Tutoring Approach

I am extremely student focussed and avoid direct, rote learning unless absolutely necessary. I aim to encourage engagement and enthusiasm for the subject in my students. Understanding a students strengths, weaknesses and interests is key to promoting engagement in the lessons. I form good teacher student relationships and am extremely patient, tailoring my classes for the recipients individually as well as a group. I try to relate the studies of my students to real life applications and the kind of work expected at university and professional levels, as this gives the work context and avoids the abstractness that often leads to students feeling demoralised and uninterested.
