I am an experienced musician with a diverse background in live music, composition, sound art and installation and broadcasting. I think of myself as primarily a folk and punk guitarist with interests experimental improvisation, computer music and creative writing but I also have a lot of curiosity, think everything is interesting and often find myself down strange rabbit holes.
I specialise in teaching Classical Guitar but I'm well equipped to teach all styles of electric guitar, Bass, Acoustic and Ukulele!
I have a Bmus degree in Contemporary Performance from Newcastle University and a Mmus in Creative Practice from Goldsmiths College of Art. Aside from the academic world I teach classical and electric guitar in a local music school, perform in a few punk bands and have my own monthly radio show
I am a pupil centred teacher and am here to guide the student through their development according to their own goals and ambitions! We can work on technical exercises, improvisation, scaling through Grades, song-writing and being part of a band.
I primarily like to work by ear and memory with lots of improvisation, composition, creativity and exploration! We learn songs, extend them, write our own material and break apart music styles for our own use. Written music is there for guidance and support but really we are here to explore the guitar and our own voices while also gaining confidence in our own creativity.
I can guide students through grades ("Classical" and rock school) and help with applications to music schools, colleges and universities as well as performance and live gigs
