Hi! I am a Science teacher and examiner with AQA and Edexcel with over 25 years of experience of teaching a wide range of abilities - from those that find some of the abstract Science topics a challenge to those aiming for grade 9. I have worked in a variety of UK schools both in the independent and state sector. As a teacher, I can understand the exam system and how to coach pupils to get the highest grades.

Tutoring Experience

Teaching is what I do! I have been teaching Science for 25 years and have experienced a whole range of abilities....but more importantly, children. Each child will bring their own learning strengths and weaknesses, their own personailties and skills.
I have taught KS3, KS4 science -Biology, Chemistry and Physics and A level Biology.
I have been a Head of Biology and Second in Science during my career.
I also have been a GCSE Science and Biology exam marker for AQA and Edexcel for many years and found that this experience has been the most valuable to helping my students improve their results - it's not just about 'learning the facts'.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is whatever suits the child.
Private tuition allows me to work one-to-on with the child and unpick any areas where they have a block and try and work with them to give them the skills and confidence to suceed.
Some students need to the experience of working through grade 8/9 questions to feel confident to tackle these types of questions and the special application that you require.
This means that my strategy varies by subject and student. Generally though, sessions include a combination of:
- Teaching new material, or recapping areas students are struggling with
- Discussing the wider applications of the material to help with memory retention and exams
- Exam specific advice, such as commonly asked questions, or definitions that might come up
- Exam practise (I have a bank of past exam papers, split by topic, for the subjects I teach)
- Regular feedback on how students are doing & what to work on, including homework
