I am a professional tutor who has the skills and passion to help my students reach the highest grades. I am married with two children and have taught maths at some level for thirty years. I have a wide range of interests including films, history and sport. I believe that education is the key to ‘choice’ and ‘opportunity’ which is the greatest gift we can give people to enhance their quality of life. My time is dedicated to one-to-one tuition.

Tutoring Experience

Many years of teaching with an open mind to innovative ideas and teaching methods means that I not only have excellent subject knowledge including the history of maths, but I know that students do not all understand at the same level or benefit from the same style of delivery and therefore use a variety of approaches. I have marked for a variety of exam boards at all levels (SATs, GCSE, A Level). I have taught in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Telford and Shropshire and been Head of Physics, Head of Maths, ICT Manager and Senior Teacher and am now a Professional Tutor.

Tutoring Approach

From experience, I know what students must grasp to ensure progress. I make the techniques accessible and clear, starting in an uncomplicated way and ensuring coverage of all aspects including the most challenging applications – I don’t only explain how to do it but why doing it that way makes sense and works! I am skilled at asking questions that develop a student’s depth of understanding and student’s questions are answered in a way that makes the obstacles to learning evaporate - no question is too simple. Material is planned and organised to meet the needs of each individual student. I have high standards and am focussed on hard work but there is fun to be had too.
