My name is Kai Parmar, and I recently completed my undergraduate degree in History with a 2:1 classification. My primary historical interests lie in the modern period, particularly from the 1800s onwards. During my studies, I focused on a range of topics, including the USA, Protestant England, Appeasement, Holy and Soviet Russia, Stalinism, and De-Stalinization. My dissertation explored the effects of Soviet rule on rural and urban youth, reflecting my keen interest in revolutionary and extremist moments in modern history.
Key areas of focus for me include the French Revolution, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union. My earlier studies at GCSE and A Level, which covered topics such as the interwar years, appeasement, the Weimar Republic, Italian unification, and the Soviet Union, significantly influenced my module choices at university. This continuity has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of these periods.
During my time at university, I served as a student ambassador and contributed to a project led by one of my professors titled “A History from Below of Appeasement and the Munich Crisis: Performance of ‘The Nervous State’.” As part of this initiative, I assisted in organizing and facilitating two workshops aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of a key GCSE and A-level topic through the lens of F.L. Lucas’s diary, presented in the format of a theatrical production. These workshops provided an engaging platform for students to explore the experiences of ordinary individuals during the era of appeasement while deepening their comprehension of its overarching themes.
With my academic background and passion for modern history, I am confident in my ability to help students better understand their GCSE and A Level history modules. I aim to provide clear explanations of key concepts and topics, enabling students to excel in their studies and achieve strong results.
