I'm a specialist maths tutor, fully qualified, with over 6 years experience. I have a PGCE in Adult Numeracy from the University of Bolton, which makes me particularly qualified to teach adults and teenagers (14+). I also have a large amount of experience tutoring children. I graduated from Oxford University with a Masters in Engineering Science.
I am passionate about education, but I match this with a friendly, laid back, and calm demeanour which means that I always develop a good rapport with my students, and learning takes place in a very relaxed and positive atmosphere.
I have tutored children from ages 4-16, teaching all parts of the maths National Curriculum up to GCSE.
I have also taught adults in one to one and classroom settings, teaching all levels of the Functional Skills curriculum.
The approach I take with my students is firstly to be very calm, patient and encouraging, building up and maintaining learner confidence.
I discuss with my learners to set out achievable targets, and I plan lessons to cater to different learning styles. I am very responsive to the feelings and needs of the learner - while always pushing them on towards new heights, I believe it is important to know when to take a step back, and not dishearten a learner with work they are not quite ready for. Many people's traumas with maths come from teachers' failures to do just this.
Finally, I am always fully committed to the progress of my students and making sure that their goals are met. To this end I make myself available via email correspondence throughout the week, and can also supply homework sheets and recommendations for other online independent study resources for the learner to maximise their learning outside of sessions.
