I am a research scientist with a PhD in cardiovascular biochemistry from King's College London and a Masters degree from the University of Bath. After finishing my PhD, I worked at Imperial College London and UCL on lymphangiogenesis, diabetic retinopathy, and the blood-brain barrier. I am currently taking a break from formal work to raise our family but am keen to take the opportunity to share my passion for science.
I am friendly, reliable, and patient, and will do my utmost to help you feel confident in any areas which you are struggling with.
I have always enjoyed helping others and teaching has been a big part of that, from helping friends and peers at school to advising Ph.D. students on their thesis or experimental protocols. At school and college, I would try and find interesting ways to help my friends when revising for exams, testing each other, and coming up with silly songs - anything to help those crucial bits of information stick! More recently, I have helped PhD students to understand complex protocols and encouraged them to think about how the results we get may relate to wider medical issues. Additionally, I have run an exhibit at science festivals, introducing children to fairly advanced scientific concepts in a fun and engaging way, and helped out with practical sessions for a BSc course.
I will be led by your needs; I can cover specific topics that you are struggling with, or help more generally with exam preparation. In my experience, often all that is required is a fresh perspective on a problem. We will be able to explore specific problems in-depth to fill in any gaps so that you feel confident.
I will focus any examples and resources on the examined curriculum but I can also include real-world examples from my own experience where relevant. Personally, if I'm learning something new I like to apply the basic concepts to a real-world example - I find this helps me to understand but also to remember it in future.
