Hello! My name is Karen, and I am excited to offer my expertise in English, Drama and Research/Study Skills.
I have lived and taught in several other countries but most of my teaching experience has been at UK universities. I trained at a top drama school and, before I became a teacher, I was a professional actor and singer. I still love to perform in local choirs and theatre groups. I love to walk on the beaches and surrounding hills with my dog.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of working with young people and adults in secondary & higher education settings as well as in private sectors.
I am currently a Humanities tutor and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. With a BA in Acting and an MA in Theatre and Performance, complemented by a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, I bring a comprehensive academic background to my tutoring services. My qualifications, coupled with a deep passion for education, empower me to cater to the diverse needs of my students, helping them achieve their academic goals and fostering a love for learning.
My career has involved developing and delivering a wide range of curricula, ensuring each lesson is tailored to meet students' specific needs and goals. Over the past three years, I have embraced the dynamic world of online teaching, successfully conducting both 1:1 and group sessions. This experience has enriched my understanding of virtual learning dynamics, allowing me to create interactive and engaging lessons that resonate with online students.
I believe in supporting each student by understanding their needs and instilling as much confidence as possible in their abilities. We will begin by establishing clear goals and a timeline for achieving them. We can, if you wish, add formative checkpoints along the way to assess progress.
