I have been working as a primary teacher for the past 13 years in Scotland. In addition to working in mainstream schools I have experience in supporting children with English as an Additional Language, additional support needs and challenging behaviour.
I have worked with children from 4-12 both as a classroom teacher and as a support for learning teacher working one to one with children who need extra support.
I am currently working as a p7 classroom teacher.
I aim for a friendly atmosphere where the child is at the heart of the learning and feels confident to challenge barriers to learning. I believe that positive reinforcement and patience is the key to success. I encourage creative thinking to solve the problem and use contextual learning in order to make the experiences useful and as relevant as possible.
I encourage the child to think outside the box and to try and solve the problem using strategies such as trial and error.
I believe that everyone learns in different ways and that finding out the best way a child can learn and teaching them the skills to do so is very beneficial to their overall learning.
