I am a passionate and committed teacher of Geography who loves to see my students flourish. I started working with students from a young age where I assisted in coaching basketball to junior teams in my community, then I worked abroad running and managing kids clubs across all ages where I ran activities and from there went into teaching beginning at primary level and branching out into secondary. My first secondary teaching experience was teaching English as a foreign language in India where my love for teaching grew, I then followed this passion to Abu Dhabi where I taught Geography in an International school before returning to the UK to teach in state secondary school.
I have a wealth of experience getting students the grades they need to be successful and I love to see students learn and develop over time. I am currently 2nd in department in an outstanding secondary school. I am flexible, adaptable and have a wealth of experience working with all kinds of learners across all ages. I have a particular interest in developing literacy skills so I can be of support to students who struggle or who might need support with basic literacy.
I have extensive experience (14 years) working with students of secondary school age. I have taught across all Key Stages: KS3(Year 7-9), KS4 students studying for GCSE both Edexcel and AQA boards as well as A-level students. My previous results have been excellent and I have been able to secure very high pass rates for the students I have taught to achieve Grade 4+ at GCSE level.
Students requesting support with GCSE exams will receive regular feedback on work completed with a free service to mark any practice exam papers. I have been a marker for GCSE papers for the last 3 years and have an extensive understanding of what is required to secure those all important pass rates.
I have also taught A Level Geography and have a wealth of experience and deep subject knowledge which enables me to support students across a range of abilities. I have taught the AQA board in most recent years but have the ability to teach across multiple boards where required.
I strive to create an environment where my students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes as I believe this is an integral part of the learning process. Over the years, teachers who have observed me often comment on the friendly yet professional rapport that I am able to establish with my students and I take great pride in this.
Due to my teaching experience I am able to really cater lessons to suit the individual needs of the student as I have so much experience to draw on. I really enjoy teaching on a 1-1 basis as it allows freedom to tailor lessons to your interests. If you are engaged in the topic the learning will be more effective (and enjoyable!) and this will be reflected in the progress that you make.
In our first session, I will conduct a needs analysis to discover exactly what it is you would like to get out of the course. We will work together and find the best route to achieve this. I am always pro-active in meeting the students where they are. With regular assessment, I am able to understand the specific needs of the students and work with them to hone the skills they need to secure the best results possible. My sessions will be lively, energetic and relentlessly positive. I am always happy to check homework or past papers and more than happy to speak with your child/your teacher directly to build up a picture of what you need to work on most. I am always supportive and encouraging and hope to pass on enthusiasm for geography in my students.
I’m the lessons, we will discuss the content together and I will keep you regularly updated on the progress they are making. I believe good communication is key to achieving the best results.
