Hi there! My name is Katherine. I recently graduated from university with a first class degree in History. My attitude towards tutoring is that with the right support, no student is incapable of succeeding in whichever subject they set their mind on. Having only recently left the education system myself, I can easily put myself into the student's mindset, allowing me to determine what each individual needs to succeed in their academic endeavours.
I am particularly skilled in essay writing and critical analysis, areas which are vital in humanities subjects like History and English literature.
My previous teaching experience includes tutoring year 6 pupils for the 11+ exam, and work experience in a primary school.
I subscribe to a student led approach to teaching. This can be achieved by allowing the student to find a particular area of the subject matter which they find most interesting and initially focusing on that. This could be a piece of literature, a historical event, or a scientific process or phenomenon. Once the student is engaged with the subject, we can then expand into other areas. I cater my teaching style to what suits each individual student best, as everyone learns in different ways. This could be using visual, vocal, and/or written techniques.
