I have tutored children for over ten years, supporting children up to A-Level standard, both in person and online.
In terms of teaching experience, I have worked in both state and independent schools for the past fourteen years. I have worked in Senior Management Teams, being responsible for both the pastoral and academic progress of the pupils. In addition, I have trained as a designated safeguarding lead and I have a DBS (CRB) check.
As part of my Master’s degree at Oxford University, I completed action research into how to enhance motivation in underachieving pupils; the research was awarded a distinction and was published by Oxford to be kept in their Education library. As such, I have excellent understanding of how to engage students in their learning, by working on their intrinsic motivation. I ensure that children are set achievable targets, which we regularly review, to maximise progress.
I have supported numerous children in their applications to top senior schools, including for scholarships. As part of my sessions, I can run practice interviews and work on practice papers, so that each pupil is fully prepared and confident enough to tackle the application process.
I take a personalised approach to lessons, considering the individual personality and needs of each student, putting them at ease so they are motivated to learn. I am trained in supporting SEND, gifted and DME (dual or multiple exceptional) children and use adaptive teaching methods to tailor the resources. Pupils find my friendly approach encouraging and by splitting information into chunks, they are able to understand the purpose of each session.
