Kay

Hi, my name is Kay and I have been a qualified primary teacher since 1998. I am available for tutoring for children aged 4 - 12 (or up to year 7 in maths and English).

Tutoring Experience

I have a great deal of teaching experience both as a full time class teacher, and for the last few years, as a supply teacher across various schools in West Yorkshire(I have just moved to Beverley in East Yorkshire). I have also worked in schools giving one to one tuition to targeted children to help them to overcome obstacles and reach their potential in Maths and English. I have worked with many children in year 6, helping them achieve success in their SATS - and have had very good results with this. As I am working as a supply teacher at the moment, I am up to date with current methods being taught and am familiar with the National Curriculum. I understand what children need to be able to do to reach or exceed the levels expected of them for their age.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is to first of all gain an understanding of what the child wants to achieve from the process and where they feel their difficulties lie. If the child is working towards achieving a certain level in their SATS, it is useful to work through old SATS papers and pinpoint which types of questions are causing problems. Tuition can then be given accordingly. I believe that most barriers to learning can be overcome by trying different approaches and giving lots of encouragement along the way. Building self-confidence is crucial and I will always aim to put the child at ease by being friendly and patient.

I am available for tutoring daytime and evenings during the school holidays and evenings and weekends during term time. I can either tutor at my home or will travel up to 5 miles from Beverley(or further for an additional cost to cover time/petrol).
I have an enhanced DBS certificate and you can be assured that I have had all the necessary safeguarding checks as I am a practising primary teacher.
