I am passionate about ensuring that my tutees receive the results that they desire and deserve, and that education is a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging process. I have been a full-time Head of History for over 25 years with considerable teaching experience in a variety of prestigious schools and, in addition, lecture and mentor undergraduates at university level. I also continue to deliver conferences nationally to history teachers and examiners and also revision programmes for students and have written extensively on educational theory, professional development and of course History. I consult on and author A level textbooks used by many schools nationally and also serve as a senior advisor for a number of national educational bodies. I am often commissioned by schools across the country to visit and devise teaching programmes or to offer bespoke revisions and exams skills packages for their year groups.
I have taught History in a wide variety of schools, encompassing the full range of ability in the age group 11-18 . In addition to tutoring at Common Entrance, GCSE. A Level, IB and pre-U. I have considerable experience in coaching students towards improving grades at A level and also guiding Oxbridge admission. I run workshops for learners of all ages and lead national conferences in developing the type of learning techniques necessary for success in examination. I have chaired national A Level and also GCSE conferences with professional historians of international repute. In addition I have led a number of academic departments in schools. I have taught a number of home schooled students from Yr6 through to Yr13, but also worked with students needing very short term and intense revision in the run up to an exam. I am very happy to work with parents and students to devise entire packages of study or delivering entire GCSEs or A Levels, or alternatively to offer more short term work on revision and exam technique.
I am always responsive to what my student wants and I work hard to quickly establish the individual learning style that will bring results. I am very happy indeed to address any areas of knowledge or exam technique which students would like to focus most upon. This is supported by means of in-depth and current experience of the requirements of all of the major examination boards. I hold that the best education responds to the learning style of the individual with a clear focus on what gets results in the exams. I am very happy indeed to discuss individual requirements and to draw up a bespoke plan which will bring results.
