Online Maths and Physics Tuition

For the current year I am taking on adults for all subjects and anyone planning on retaking A levels.

I am a highly experienced teacher with an excellent success rate for students taking exams. Fully DBS checked (certificates available on request) and also up-to-date with all required TES/government safeguarding training. I am also trained in teaching students with ADHD and Autism.

I'm known for my fun lessons and for giving students great confidence in themselves. I am the bestselling author of four books - The Pukur (a novel), Sonali, The Old Man on the Beach, and Try Not To Laugh: How to Revise, Memorise and Survive Exams. I am also acclaimed TEDx talk speaker.

From 2008 - 2013 I worked in Bangladesh to create the O level department for an English Medium School and train teachers. I loved living abroad and enjoy new countries and experiences whilst always respecting the host cultures.

Since 2014 I've been back in the north of the UK where I work as an educational consultant, journalist, freelance writer and private tutor. This gives me the flexibility I need to work anywhere in the world as and when needed. I continue to train teachers and act as a consultant for schools around the world and I write educational articles for publications and websites as a regular part of my freelance work. My book on revision and study skills - "Try Not To Laugh" is aimed at teenage students and older. It is a tried and tested method which has helped countless students to remember facts and figures with considerable ease. My latest book "Not Drawn Accurately" is aimed at Maths GCSE students and will publish later this year.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a professional teacher and tutor for over 30 years. During that time I have taught both as a private home tutor and as a classroom teacher for my living. I am both qualified and experienced in teaching Sciences, Music, Maths, English, Psychology, Social Sciences (including RE and philosophy) and a range of other subjects.

For 8 years I ran a busy music department in a large school in Cumbria, UK. There I taught from 11 yrs to 18 yrs and my department never failed to receive less than excellent reviews from the Government OFSTED inspections. My students consistently achieved admirable results every year at all educational levels.

For 6 years I set up and led the O Level department in an English Medium School in Bangladesh. I trained teachers to be able to take on this high level of work and taught a range of subjects - Maths, Chemistry, Physics, History and Study Skills among others. Students achieved the very highest success rates every year and every single student has gone on to further study and then degree courses. Students at the school are now in demand from the best schools for further education thanks to our excellent track record.

As a private tutor I have helped hundreds of students succeed in various qualifications from music grades to A level Physics and Maths. Almost all my clients come from word-of-mouth as I am very popular as a teacher and have always been in demand. I'm proud of both the successes of my students and how they have developed a love of learning from my style of 'can-do' teaching.

I teach 1-2-1 online lessons in most subjects for students in the UK, Europe, America and Asia.

Tutoring Approach

I have a friendly, informal approach to teaching which encourages students to engage actively in lessons. My classes were known for eruptions of laughter from my students in every lesson and even though progress through the curriculum was identical or higher to that with other teachers, my students often felt they hadn't been learning at all but simply enjoying themselves. I teach through fun and am renowned for an enthusiasm which is infectious.

Although I have high expectations of the work students will produce, my 'can-do' approach brings the best out of each one, giving them a safe environment to be themselves, share their fears and be guided to overcome problems and find solutions. Students feel confident to tackle any problems after lessons with me.

In the last ten years I have been pioneering ground-breaking mnemonic techniques so that students can memorise all kinds of data (historical dates, terms, language vocabulary etc.) with ease and take control of their own revision technique so that they don't need to panic when it comes to exams. Instead, students go into exams armed with techniques which give them confidence to know they will do well.
