I have taught just A level psychology for 12 years. Over this time I have taught thousands of students with a wide range of GCSE scores. I love my job and my subject. I have studied psychology since I was 16 years old. The joy I get from introducing students to my subject is thoroughly rewarding. I have received a grade 1 (Outstanding) in the last four lesson observations.
I have also taught AS psychology and been an open university lecturer.
After training to teach in secondary schools in Stoke -on-Trent, I moved back down south and work at Peter Symonds College, at a very well respected sixth form college.
I regularly attend profession development courses with the AQA exam board and other agencies. And also benefit from working with a large profession team of psychology teachers.
17years at Peter Symonds College in Winchester.
Open university tutor.
Years of private tuition.
Tutoring needs to be individual. I will start by listening to the student.
From my experience, students often need some assistance homing their exam technique. This I am well experienced in providing.
The new A level structures makes it vital for students to grasp the exam technique early, due to the large amount of information students will have to deal with. I am able to provide 2 hour one off ‘Exam Skill Booster Session’ to kick start a students studies and boost their confidence. More commonly, I provide continuous sessions, usually weekly, where we can go into individual topics in detail and reinforce the students newly developed exam skills.
Some students may benefit from simply practicing and having feedback on exam questions. Some will want to discuss specific topics and some will want to practice their study skills. All of these can be accommodated in what I hope is a friendly and professional manner.
Now is a good time to begin tutoring. The more time we have together, the more we can achieve.
I tutor at my home in Chandlers Ford but can do home visits if that works for us both. I can also provide tutoring at weekends and during holidays.
