ENGLISH also ENGLISH AS FOREIGN LANGUAGE (EFL)
I specialise in working with home-tutored students (English and Maths) and foreign students (young and adult).
I love to teach. I enjoy the recognition in my student's eyes when they get it! I strive to help with what is needed. I often do extra work to prepare even if I already have an extensive library or materials I have created and obtained over the years. New situations and new needs require new approaches from me, and I cherish the challenge.
So far, I have been able to help my students from all walks of life, even if I had doubts in the beginning - we found a way.
I am a learner myself. I constantly educate myself in my field and in general.
I also have an extensive corporate background, having worked with top management of international companies. The past experiences have widened my scope of knowledge and skills that I can offer.
I have developed my English subject knowledge in many ways. I have learnt English as a foreign language. A year before my ‘maturity exams’, at 17, I passed a state exam in English at an intermediate level which automatically meant a top grade A level
In my more than three years of private tutoring, I have had more than 70 students, several of them long-term.
English, English as a foreign language and Maths - young and adults.
I worked two years as a teaching assistant in class, teaching groups of 6 and also delivering one-to-one sessions working with students with learning difficulties. I am now a qualified teacher (English) with several years of teaching experience. I have taught KS3, KS4 and also A-level as well. Before all this, I had taught English as a foreign language privately for several years and do so now as well.
I also have experience in teaching adults, and professionals. For a few years, I had corporate clients of quite big, international names, for whom I created and delivered training in several very interesting topics: effective written business communication, business etiquette and manners, dressing to impress, etc. before moving to England. I have done many substitutions in primary schools and have worked with younger children one-to-one with success.
I have been working as a private tutor for over three years and have had many students. I can proudly say that my track record is very good - my students usually leave with satisfaction, also had and have long-time students. I have taught the usual writing and reading skills; analytical skills at primary, secondary and higher levels. I have helped people who struggled with academic writing - taught sentence structures and their uses, with great success.
Maths - I have taught this subject on many levels. I have worked with primary students, secondary students, and GCSE levels. I even worked with adults as well. My students gain understanding and success on a regular basis. My last two GCSE students both achieved what they wanted: one from D to C and the other from C to B. :) I also prepared two students this year for their year 6 SATS. I have had several QTS students as well who then managed to pass their exams in confidence.
Tutoring is what I do now full-time. Therefore, I am quite flexible as to when I can accept students. I teach in my home.
I have a goal-oriented approach. We look at what you want from your study, and I adapt and create my methods and materials to your needs. I am a fun, positive person in general. I try to make the learning experience fun, interesting and challenging as well.
Come to talk to me. We discuss what you want and need and go from there.
Approach? Investigate the root of the non-comprehension and build knowledge back from there.
Oh, and I always have some sweets and cookies on the table...
You are welcome to talk to present or previous students of mine about their experiences.
