Hi there! My name is Kiran and I am a first year medical student with a passion for science and teaching. With a natural curiosity for how the world works, I have always found studying to be an enjoyable process, and I hope to impart the same enthusiasm onto my students so they can look at their textbooks without dread! I am friendly, positive and always eager to help in any way I can. My approachable demeanour paired with experience and knowledge of the course will hopefully ensure a smooth experience for my tutees and we can achieve outstanding results, together as a team!
I have 20+ hours of formal tutoring experience and many more teaching relatives, siblings and friends, all of whom have made excellent progress due to the lessons.
Having gone through the 9-1 system, I am very familiar with the course structure and exactly what examiners are looking for, and I share techniques and tips with students to ensure they achieve their potential.
Applying to medical school and university in general is no easy task, and I have experienced that firsthand, which is why I go one step further and guide students on what to do after their exams, including a level choices and how this will impact their applications in the future.
My grades were 9,9,9,8,8 for Biology, physics, geography, chemistry and psychology respectively, all considered A* and above when compared to the previous grading system.
I am certain the best way to learn is to understand, so I will focus on ensuring my students are able to not just memorise, but explain what they have learnt too.
My teaching methods include:
- Lecture style lessons where I write on a whiteboard, allowing students to follow every thought process
- Constant reference to the specification to ensure we are on track
- Constant exam practice to apply the knowledge learnt
- Review of previous knowledge at the start of lessons
- Homework (not extensive don't worry!) to consolidate knowledge
- Working with student to create a study plan and revision timetable
- Helping to implement study plans and timetables
- teaching and using a variety of memorisation techniques such as flashcards, blurting and spaced repetition to cement knowledge
- constant feedback with both parents and students to ensure we get the most of our lessons
Ultimately, the lessons are tailored to each student depending on their strengths, weaknesses and what they feel works best for them!
