Hello!

I'm Kirsty, a multi-skilled tutor offering high quality tuition in all sciences as well as English, Astronomy and Business.

I am new to the First Tutors platform but have been successfully tutoring students far and wide since 2012.

I have a passion for learning myself, which is why I have trained over the years to understand and get involved in every subject I can- both for me and my students.

When it comes to the sciences, I am actively involved in a local society dedicated to the study of Astronomy which I find really helps me to add a real world view to lessons with students, on multiple occasions sharing and nurturing the hobby in them too.

In terms of English I believe that in order to be a great writer, sometimes we just need a purpose and direction and so alongside my lessons, I run initiatives devoted to get students sharing their work and seeing that work published.

In general life, I have a lot of interests, but mostly my Astronomy, writing and I am ashamed to say my gaming. I enjoy playing complicated board games and RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons which I actually have a free student group for!

Tutoring Experience

I have taught in a mainstream school and have been tutoring professionally since 2012. I have taught students from a broad spectrum of academic backgrounds, with an excellent track record thanks to their hard work and dedication!

I have also been examining for a number of exam boards for many years now too. I find that this helps me to stay current with changes in the curriculum and exam setup as well as allowing me to offer professional feedback based on experience.

My classroom-based experience has varied across the years; the more qualifications I gathered, the more subjects I was enlisted to teach and while this has been a massive undertaking I have enjoyed every single moment teaching all of the disciplines I have a passion for.

I have experience in tutoring high-ability, middling and SEN students and find that my approach (detailed in next section) has helped to encourage and prepare students to achieve their very best in examinations and beyond.

When it comes to 'success rate', I would never say 'my' success rate is 99%, or 100% etc. - they're not my grades. However, I would say that I have supported hundreds of students over the years, all of whom have either met or exceeded their desired outcomes; I am extremely proud of them all!

Tutoring Approach

If I were to use one word to describe my teaching approach it would be adaptable.

I tailor my approach to the student and their needs everytime, with a focus on what they want their outcomes to be.

I am informal in my approach to lessons in the sense that I am not robotic, we have conversations, share thoughts and work together as though I were sat in your front room doing a study session, not a lecture.

I plan a number of activities around my input and work at a pace that suits the student- I will not leave a topic behind if I feel it isn't fully understood.
