For many years I have worked from home as an online tutor in maths snd science but am also a qualified Speach and Language Therapist. This training enables me to effectively communicate,
assess and teach well with a wide range of ages and abilities. This approach incorperates techniques such as 'stepping up and stepping
down' through out the session as a means of acutately assessing what input is needed to enable effective learning. Being passionate about helping young people gain in confidence with the often tricky subjects of maths and sciences, working with them to improve their skills and knowledge while reducing fears and anxiety, private tutoring gives me the perfect way to do this. Also my Speach Therapy experience helps me greatly with students that struggle to articulate and clearly express what they find difficult about these subjectd. I can work one to one with each student giving undivided attention to their specific needs. When not working I am caring for my young son, walking our two gaint fluffy chow chows and reading historical and science fiction.
With 14 years of experience as a private tutor, since 2008 I have helped many students improve their grades to achieve the results that enabled them to go on to secure jobs or gain entry to their favored university course.
I cover primary through to GCSE in maths and all sciences, providing general tutoring in these subjects and specific exam preparation for SATs and GCSE. Some students I tutor for a number of years, filling in gaps not being addressed and all gain grades between 8 and 9. Others I only get just before exams when it is realised extra help is needed. Even with this short time scale a recent student came up from working at grade 3 level to gaining a grade 6 in 2 months.
In approaching each individual student I try to establish a rapport and discover what their learning style is, what they are interested in, what obstacles are in the way to learning/understanding and work at a pace that is right for them. I use a range of formative assessment strategies to check the progress of student learning and ensure they are developing the skills they need to achieve their goals.
I am a parent of a young son and so appreciate how much we want the best for our children to give them every opportunity to succeed.
