My name is Laura and I am a qualified secondary English teacher, Specialist Leader in Education and English Education Consultant for a large multi-academy trust. I believe that I can make a meaningful difference in how education is delivered and received, providing opportunities for all our young people to succeed and have choices in later life. I am passionate about improving opportunities for all, shaping the academic lives of others. I am experienced in collaborating and working in multiple school settings, working closely with curriculum, teaching and learning and data leads.
I have been an English teacher for 10 years, holding positions across curriculum, head of English, senior leadership and most recently, school improvement. I specialise in AQA Language and Literature GCSE teaching, across a variety of different needs and target grades. I am a trained AQA GCSE examiner and mark national qualifications in the Summer, giving me a greater, more nuanced understanding of mark schemes and assessment objectives.
I tutor online using Zoom, focusing on holistic knowledge of texts, big ideas of the authors and focused, coherent analysis through written, exam responses. I will focus on recall activities to ensure acquired knowledge is built over time, as well as utilising effect revision strategies for those nearing their exams. Using my knowledge of the exam specification, as well as my experience in schools, I can adapt my teaching for the target grades of my pupils.
