Hi! Im Laura, a South London-based teacher with 5 years experience of teaching in primary schools. I am hoping to return to tutoring alongside teaching for now. I have a passion for guiding pupils to overcome hurdles and reach their potential, and would love to be able to support you and your family, whatever your tutoring goals may be. When not teaching, I am a keen boardgame player, love musical theatre, and enjoy taking care of our very nervous family dog!
I have taught across all Key Stsge 1-2 year groups in my role as a primary school teacher, and have successfully guided pupils through their phonics screening check, multiplication tables check, and KS1 and KS2 SATS. I have experience of adapting learning materials to enable all children to succeed, especially those with potential barriers to learning such as SEN needs or neurodiversity.
In my prior roles as a nanny and tutor, I also worked one-to-one with children and families to support their plans for education. I have tutored pupils to succeed in local grammar school entrance exams, and worked with pupils returning to formal education to close any gaps in their knowledge or understanding.
Depending on your family's tutoring goals, I will begin with an initial assessment of you or your child's strengths and areas for improvement. I will then work with you to devise a plan that takes any upcoming tests or exams into account. Depending on the tutee's age and needs, I will bring or create educational games into the sessions to ensure that tutoring becomes a fun and safe place for them to learn. I am also happy to set homework for tutees who would like to work more independently on their goals. Using the national curriculum or exam board specifications as an initial starting point, I will work with you and your family to ensure that your progress is targeted to where you most need support while still allowing your strengths, interests and talents to shine through!
