I very much enjoy teaching part time at Colchester Sixth Form college, where I have worked for 18 years. I live in Colchester and have much involvement with Sociology and Anthropology, having authored many major textbooks, articles for Sociology Review and I have trained teachers for Hodder, AQA, OCR and privately. I have also examined for over 20 years.
I am an experienced Sociology tutor, and I have taught Sociology A level for over twenty years and I been a senior examiner for AQA. I am an outstanding teacher and I am a subject specialist. I am currently head of assessment at the college and I enjoy working with students of all abilities. I have a wide range of teaching styles and I am a trained observer.
I believe in using a teaching style that is tailored to the student's specific needs. This can include explanation via powerpoint, mind maps, visual cues, workshops, short videos, essay planning sheets, sample answers. Every one of my lessons will contain links to exam questions, confidence building activities and regular learning checks. I strongly believe in creating a rapport with my students so they are able to ask questions or say they don't understand anything. I have a huge array of excellent teaching resources to suit a wide range of learning styles and abilities.
