I have a keen interest in how things work and love to share my knowledge and experience with others.
My main pastimes at present are Astronomy, Archery, Roller Disco and playing Ice Hockey.
I studied for my B.Sc. Physics degree at the University of Birmingham and graduated in 1984.
I first taught A-Level Physics in 1985 as an Instructor Officer in the Royal Navy (where my main job was to teach Electrical Engineering theory to trainees).
On leaving the Navy, I conducted research into High Temperature Superconductors and gained my Ph.D. from the University of Warwick.
From 1991, I taught continuously in secondary schools (gaining Qualified Teacher Status under the Licensed Teacher Scheme) and have served as "Teacher in charge of Physics", "Second in Science" and "Acting Head of Science".
Most recently I worked with the county's "Flexible Learning Team" supporting pupils who could not, for various reasons, attend school. This work was done one-to-one with pupils in their homes or other suitable locations. I have retired from full time classroom teaching and now concentrate on tutoring and acting as an assistant examiner for one of the main exam boards.
I have taught all three sciences to GCSE and have also taught ICT, GCSE Electronics, GCSE Astronomy and (for a short time) some modules of A-Level Further Maths (mechanics).
I first assess my student's base level of subject knowledge, their associated skills (i.e. maths and english) and personality. I then tailor my tutoring to strengthen all necessary areas in the style most effective for my student.
