Hello! My name is Leah Plant, and I’m a 19 year old tutor with a passion for helping students succeed. I’ve completed my GCSEs and A-Levels, and throughout my academic journey, I’ve been fortunate to achieve great grades through my studies. As a young woman with educational needs myself, I understand firsthand the struggles of navigating an academic environment. I know how it feels to face obstacles, and I’m deeply empathetic to students who might be struggling in ways others may not see. My own experiences have shaped my approach as a tutor, and I’m committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and understood. I specialize in tutoring English and History for students from primary school up to GCSE level, and I work with a wide range of abilities. Tutoring Experience

While I was a studying student, I mentored younger pupils, ranging in ages and abilities from primary to GCSE level, assisting them with their homework and helping them prepare for assessments. I know how important it is to make revision fun and engaging, so I often used creative methods, such as interactive games, visual aids, and practice quizzes, to keep things interesting. Whether it was helping them with essay writing or reviewing key historical events.

Tutoring Approach

As a young tutor, teaching English and History to students ranging from primary school to GCSE level, including children with educational needs, my approach is centred on creating an engaging, and supportive learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student. I understand that every student learns differently, I tailor my lessons to suit their individual needs and strengths. By assessing a student’s current understanding and learning style, I set clear, achievable goals that encourage progress and build confidence. For students with educational needs, I ensure that accommodations such as extra time, visual aids, or specific tools are incorporated to help them thrive and reach their full potential. As a young woman who has been through the education system with educational needs, I ensure that my tutoring approach is both accommodating and effective, whether a student has attention difficulties, dyslexia, or any other learning challenge, as I understand the difficulties students can face within an academic learning environment.A key element of my tutoring approach is helping students develop confidence in their abilities. I celebrate their progress, no matter how small, and provide constant encouragement to ensure they feel motivated and valued.For children with educational needs, this approach is especially important as it fosters a sense of self-worth and shows them that they can succeed with persistence and effort.To aid understanding, I use a variety of visual and practical resources, such as mind maps, timelines, flashcards, and graphic organizers. These tools are particularly beneficial for students with learning differences, as they provide a visual representation of the material and can make complex ideas more accessible. In History, for instance, I use timelines to help students understand the chronological order of events, while in English, I may use storyboards to help with writing structure.I maintain open communication with both students and their families to ensure everyone is on the same page regarding progress and challenges.Above all, I approach my work with patience and empathy, understanding that every student has their own pace and challenges. I create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and expressing their thoughts.
