Teaching is in my blood: I come from a family of teachers and have been working with children since I was little more than a child myself. One-to-one learning is becoming increasingly rare: many children in school receive less than a single hour of one-to-one attention per week. Some kids manage fine in this system designed to target the needs of the many, but many slip between the cracks, falling further and further behind, losing confidence and motivation.
That’s where tutoring comes in: tuition ensures that your child receives the personal, individualised support they need to thrive. My goal is to help every child achieve their full potential in the way that works best for them.
English is my specialty and my passion: I love English, I love books, words, reading. I have a degree in English from Royal Holloway, University of London and have been passionate about the subject since I was a child. I’ve been tutoring for the English Language and English Literature GCSEs for nearly a decade now and it may be my favourite subject to teach. I love sharing my passion for the subjects with my students: while they do not often arrive with a particular enthusiasm for Shakespeare or the power of rhetorical devices, they leave with at least a begrudging respect for both.
I have been a professional private tutor for over ten years now. I began tutoring at my school's after-school club aged fifteen and soon progressed to my own private clients. I tutored throughout my A Levels and while studying for my English degree, and have since established myself as a private tutor. I love working with children and I also hold an Early Learning and Modern Childcare qualification. Seeing my students thrive and achieve their goals, or tackle and conquer topics that they found tricky is what keeps me going. I am dedicated to helping every student of mine reach their full potential.
I have been tutoring for the 11+ for over eight years now and have helped children with all manner of exams for the 11+, including the Sutton SET, GL examinations, the ISEB pre-test, and the CEM Select. 95% of my students have gained a place at one or more of their target schools, including Harrow, Cheltenham Ladies College, Sutton Grammar School, St Paul’s, and King’s College. I specialise in English and Creative Writing but I do teach all four subjects: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning. I can provide supplementary tuition to bolster home study or prepare an extensive curriculum tailored to your child and their individual needs.
I have also tutored extensively for English GCSEs: I love English, I love books, words, reading.
I am always looking for new ways to make my lessons as fun and engaging as possible for each student. I tailor my plans to every student's individual needs and interests, taking into account feedback from parents and schools. I take notes on every lesson so that I can provide detailed feedback to parents.
I have helped my students with many goals: conquering difficult or stress-inducing topics, increasing confidence, and practicing concepts they just need a little bit of help with.
