I love reading, writing and talking about literature, all skills I developed while studying English Language and Literature at Oxford University. Despite being an academic person, I approach every day with a huge sense of fun - having always taken part in extra-curricular activities at school and university, such as sports teams, choirs, orchestras and drama productions. I am very creative as a person, and have achieved Grade 8 in a number of instruments; however I believe that self-discipline and efficiency are an essential when it comes to creativity.
Since leaving University I have had a career in politics at both No. 10 and the Cabinet Office.
Growing up as the eldest of five children in my family, I am used to being around and responsible for people younger than me. I have also had plenty of teaching experience, both within a school environment, and also on a one-to-one tutoring basis. In 2013 I worked for one month as a music and sports assistant at Port Regis Prep School before I went to university. In 2014, I spent two weeks of my summer holidays assisting on the Eton College Okayama Course for Japanese Students. At Oxford, I was a part time tutor during my three years. This meant I gave tutoring sessions during the week for students after school, but also went to stay at students' homes for extended tutoring sessions. I spent two months in May and June 2017 mentoring and home-schooling a girl in Year 10. Whilst in London, I have conducted a few tutoring sessions both online via Skype and at tutees' homes.
I am enthusiastic in everything I do, and in my opinion, an essential part of education is passion for the subject that is being studied. If a particular method of teaching is not working for a child, I believe that private tuition is the perfect answer. Every child has the ability to perform well - however, I think additional tuition is an incredibly important option for young people because it is so easy to fall behind in the classroom. The amount of work that gets covered I short one-to-one sessions can make the whole difference to a student's attitude to a particular subject, and transform their attitude to work from being something they dread to a part of their day that they actively look forward to. I am a punctual, well prepared person, and I bring that to my tuition sessions. I always plan my lessons before I give them, and give 100% of my time and energy to the tutee.
