Hi, I'm Lily! I currently work as a Medical Writer, obtaining my Biomedical Science BSc degree from Kings College in London, graduating with a First Class Honours. I have completed my A-Levels and obtained an A* in Biology, A in Geography and a B in Chemistry. I obtained 5 A's and 5 B's at GCSE. I can tutor Geography, Biology and Chemistry to A Level standard.
I am extremely passionate about my subjects and have a broad knowledge of each. I am well equipped to assist students with essay writing tasks as well as understanding scientific concepts. Having been through the A Level and GCSE experience - I am fully aware of the best techniques to achieve the highest grades. Additionally, being a medical writer myself, I possess further knowledge to assist students with their writing skills for longer mark or essay style questions, to ensure they are creating impact with their writing and achieving the greatest marks possible.
I currently tutor numerous students, and have five years of tutoring experience. I have received consistent feedback from students that our lessons are helpful to them and they have gained a much better/greater knowledge of the subject content, using a mix of teaching the content alongside exam questions. Also, I have held revision sessions for both GCSE and A Level students which they found extremely useful. I too was tutored during my school life which improved my knowledge greatly, and my drive stems from striving to have this same effect on my students.
Over numerous years of studying, I have learnt the best mixture of revision techniques to achieve the greatest outcome. I feel I have an adaptive teaching style, and can cater to the needs of each individual student. One method does not work for all students - so it is important for me and my student to communicate to understand where the gaps in the knowledge are and how to improve on these.
I have tutored students across all exam boards, and ensure my teaching style fits the style of the curriculum. I adapt my lessons on a student by student basis, but a broad overview of my teaching method is as follows:
- Running through the specification with students to identify areas that they are struggling the most with
- Teaching new material or recapping content that students are finding difficult through interactive presentations
- Advice and discussions around the best way to approach exams, including revision techniques, keywords, crucial definitions
- Exam practice topic by topic, or a whole mock test closer to exams, utilising my bank of past papers
- Regular feedback on what is going well, and areas to improve, as well as homework to ensure memory retention and full understanding of topics
