Retired teacher of English & Communication. Have tutored - with a high degree of success - every year since retirement.
PLEASE NOTE: My speciality is in the Scottish secondary syllabus (all levels) only. I can no longer accept English Primary/GCSE/A-Level syllabus, and have had to stop offering school-age ESL, so please don't ask. Can no longer consider Skype, as I I do prefer face-to-face now that it's possible again. Note, though, that you'll have to come to me. :)
PLEASE NOTE: My academic speciality is in the Scottish system. I accept adult/"daytime" ESL, but not "after school" ESL, and NO English Primary/GCSE/A-Level syllabus. Face-to-face - and you need to be able to get to me as I don't travel
15 years' experience in College of Further Education, teaching English & Communication at all levels from basic NQ to Higher National, including int 2, Higher and Advanced Higher English. Also 6 years' experience in Secondary teaching, during which I was a marker for SQA.
I also tutored individuals and small groups (primary, secondary and university) when my children were young.
I now have some experience - and a basic qualification - in TEFL.
I have recently been working on conversational English with ESOL students (adults), and am up to date with the current CfE National 4 & 5, Higher and Advanced Hjgher qualifications, in which I now have considerable experience. I am keeping up to date with the new regulations currently being brought into Nat5 level by SQA
I often accept written work by email for comment/proofreading.
I am a traditionalist, with a passion for helping children, young people and adults to understand and appreciate the wonderful intricacies of the English language and its literature, at all levels from late Primary, through Secondary to College/University.
I enjoy working on a one-to-one basis; working out the best approach for the individual student; keeping closely to the demands of the school curriculum where necessary and always led by what the student wants/needs. In my experience, most students are much more capable than they think they are, and require only confidence-boosting, and perhaps more detailed explanation of concepts than is possible in class time. This I can provide.
I have recently been working with adult non-native speakers, both informally (conversational, day-to-day English) and more formally (various courses with testing and/or exams).
