I am an experienced, well travelled, recently retired British English teacher living in Loughor, Swansea. I love living in the Gower area and enjoy walking along the coast and chilling at local coffee shops with friends. Although I am self-employed and spend a lot of my time offering my administrative and pastoral services to an international charity, I have always loved teaching and tutoring and have sought to do this in my free time, wherever I have been in the world. I am flexible in terms of my availability and am willing to travel to the tutee within a 5-6 mile radius.
I have taught English to all age groups ranging from 4 year olds to 75 year olds since I first qualified as an English teacher in 1984! I have taught GCSE English and Literature in the UK and whilst living in Singapore and working for the British Council I taught creative writing to Primary/ Junior children, 11+ to top juniors, O level and English and Literature to teenagers and TESOL to adults of mixed nationalities. I have taught TEFL and TESOL courses in Singapore, India, Central Asia and the Uk to many nationalities. I have tutored several students to prepare for their GCSE English Language exam.
My areas of speciality are teaching English to children /students at Key Stage 2 and 3 and helping students pass their GCSE English Language exams. I also offer intensive daily tuition for a week at a time during the school holiday periods which can be tailored to build strength in particular areas or simply to extend creative, writing skills., provide extra reading comprehension practice etc
During the initial pre-tuition meeting I like to establish where the tutee is at, what their particular challenges are, what areas they are specifically looking for help in and go from there. I also tailor my sessions to attempt to address / the specific particular needs of the student. I am creative and interactive in my approach and always seek to build up and encourage my students, capitalizing on their strengths and aiming to give greater confidence in areas which have previously been perceived as weaknesses.
