I am a caring, patient and considerate person. I have gone into to teaching as a mature candidate wanting a change of vocation where I feel as though I can really help people achieve. I have lived abroad for twenty years, learnt another language and culture. I am mum to 2 daughters, one of which has just finished university and one daughter is in her final year at university, so I am aware of the pressures and challenges that teenagers face during school life. I have trained in a school where English is not the first language for many pupils, and understand some of the difficulties pupils face if English is not their native language. This was also reinforced with my daughters, as their first language is not English so, I had to learn how best to support them in school when we came back to the UK to live permanently.
In my early career days I taught English as a foreign language in Italy for a multi national company and also in a primary school. I have recently just qualified as an English teacher and have worked on placement in 3 different secondary schools and now working as a supply teacher until I start a permanent role in September.
I think it is fundamental to create a relationship with all students, understanding how the student wants to achieve their own targets and where they have difficulties. I am extremely patient and develop a personal approach to each individual to achieve their very best. One of my daughters is dyslexic so I appreciate that teaching needs to be adapted and tailored to individual needs, and approaches may differ to suit these needs.
