I am dedicated to supporting people so that they can succeed and meet their potential. I am professional, reliable, empathetic, kind, caring, considerate and patient. I have achieved excellent results whilst teaching in secondary schools and at a further education college. I am trained in safeguarding and I have a current DBS.
I am a private tutor of Psychology, Children's Play Learning and Development and Health and Social Care. I can also teach life skills (Personal, Social and Health Education). I am familiar with most exam boards specifications in these subjects and I am able to tutor online or in person.
I have 19 years experience of working in Further Education, Secondary schools and tutoring. I have had a lead role within these organisations and have been responsible for having a detailed understanding of the specifications and the exam board requirements. I am also an exam marker and am currently employed by AQA to mark A level Psychology scripts in the Summer. I have also been the internal verifier of Btec subjects within the department.
I have ongoing experience of teaching people of all ages and in various capacities including; Psychology awareness, A levels, Access to Higher Education courses, GCSE, mental health awareness, how we respond to stress, life skills training, private tutoring, whole class teaching, public speaking, supporting/ teaching colleagues, mentoring trainee teachers and helping them to become qualified teachers. My tutoring/ teaching experience has also included supporting student nurses who needed guidance in order to complete the Psychology element of their course. I have also taught Psychology at Foundation Degree level (Forensic and Criminal Psychology) as well as put together the program of study which was authorised by the university. I have supported many nervous students who struggled to access an educational establishment, including students with particular educational needs or disabilities. I have been involved in outreach teaching in the community in order to give people the confidence to access more formal education. I am also involved in teaching Psychology, Health and Social Care and Child Development related subjects on apprenticeship courses where I support people with their work based qualifications. This list is not exhaustive but gives an idea of the range of experience that I have gained.
I have a student centred approach and I am keen to encourage enjoyment and passion for the subject. My teaching style is varied and adapted to meet individual needs. I use different techniques in order to develop understanding. I can give feed back on work completed and provide suggestions for improvements in order to increase grades. Practice questions and papers are also a good way to improve performance as I can then provide support for higher grades to be obtained. Past papers can also be provided and then marked as a way of measuring the likelihood of exam success. I would then be able to go over any areas of difficulty.
I am also able to prepare and provide documentation to support learning, including revision notes, activities etc.
