I am an experienced music teacher with an interest in all types of music. I am a singer, pianist and saxophonist, and love performing in choirs and bands. I also very much enjoy accompanying soloists for recitals and exams. I conduct a choir at the school at which I work and last year, we won the BBC School Choir of the Year competition for the second time. In between, we got through to the final of the BBC's music programme, 'Pitch Battle' which was hugely exciting!
I have been teaching for about 20 years, firstly as a piano teacher, and then subsequently, as a classroom teacher. I specialise in A level, but am also experienced at GCSE and KS3. I head up a successful department in a Performing Arts School, where I teach students from 8 - 18, and play for choirs and soloists.
I believe that building confidence is key to learning - students must be able to take risks in order to develop, and providing a 'safe' learning environment is very important. I have a relaxed approach to teaching and enjoy an excellent relationship with my students here at school. Students feel comfortable to ask questions and participate in lessons, and we often have a laugh whilst learning!
