I have 28 years' experience of teaching A level Economics to 16 to 18 year old students in two 'outstanding' sixth form colleges in the Manchester area - the vast majority of that time as the Head of Department. I am an Economics subject specialist, I don't teach any other subjects other than my own.
I am 55 years old and am married with two children aged 24 and 22. I teach from my home in south Manchester and online but I may also be willing to travel if this is more convenient.
Having previously worked as an examiner for two of the major examination boards, I have extensive knowledge of how to improve exam technique in order to access all 4 assessment objectives which ultimately determine final grades. I have full access to all past papers, marks-schemes and examiners reports which are used to develop and improve student performance.
I teach students from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds who continue to gain places at 'Russell Group' universities including Oxford, Cambridge and LSE. I am very familiar with all the major exam boards and have also tutored Economics at GCSE level.
I am happy to tutor students of any level of ability; what I most look for in a student is a willingness to work independently between sessions. I will only offer tuition if I feel that there is a realistic prospect of success; this will only be the case if the tutee is willing to put the hours in too!
Yes I use analogy and I present theory in a way that the student can understand and relate to, but success also requires some degree of common sense and the confidence to use it.
My advice to you would be that whichever tutor you choose, please don't leave it too late, the earlier you seek help the better the final outcome!
Good luck in your search!
