Hi
I love learning and the psychology of learning; indeed, I believe this is what makes me a very successful teacher. I also have a huge passion for science and how it encourages critical thinking that is wide reaching and extends into other curriculum areas. I have extensive experience teaching to the top and expanding young people's knowledge and understanding beyond the classroom and above grade 9 alongside a wealth of experience of how a wide range of SEN can impact upon learning. At the heart of my practice lies a core belief that motivation is the key to success; motivation can come from different places for different learners but is rooted in interest, self-belief and a good relationship with the teacher. All of which I foster in my students.
14 years secondary science teaching (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) across all levels. 7 years as Head of department; designing amazing curriculums and lessons to ensure that all enjoy science and succeed. Over 10 years as an exam board assessor for both Edexcel and AQA: GCSE and iGCSE. 8 years experience as a private tutor ranging from struggling year 7s to private school year 11s. I am extremely proud of the progress that each and every one of my students has made.
Building a supportive relationship with curiosity to help learners get the best from the sessions. Finding out what and where the gaps in their knowledge are and how they process the new information. Drawing on exam board experience and years of skills developed in the classroom to make sure that your child makes excellent progress - and has a nice time in the process!
My session includes;
50 minute 1-1 lesson,
30 minutes of bespoke preparation (question banks from exam papers and learning resources tailored to the tutee's needs),
homework setting and marking,
full past paper marking as appropriate.
