Louise

I qualified in Biomedical Science in 2016 and having been practising as a Biomedical Scientist in NHS and private healthcare since 2016. My most recent achievement to date was obtaining my MSc Advanced Biomedical Science in 2019 which has allowed me to develop an enhanced knowledge of the field of diagnostic healthcare. I have relished learning since school age and have since developed a passion for teaching and love to share my knowledge and skills with others to enhance their learning experience and make learning enjoyable. I am friendly, approachable and have a wide variety of skills to assist all tutees to become successful whatever their academic needs. I have built a successful career through hard work and determination and wish to inspire others to work towards their goals and become successful learners.
Aside from my career, I love to spend time reading, learning languages undertaking different leisure activities and learning new things, I am currently undertaking a few online diplomas in chosen fields of interest. My passion for study has enabled me to keep my skills up to date after completing my own professional university qualifications therefore I am well aware of the methods which are adopted to current learning within schools and universities.

Tutoring Experience

I have previous experience as a tutor in Maths, Biology and Chemistry mostly for Secondary School children who I spent a year tutoring during my own university undergraduate studies and during my postgraduate studies. I have previously undertaken a course to become a STEM ambassador which involves educating school children about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths with my chosen field being Science. My working commitments has not enabled me to utilise my STEM ambassador qualification as much as I would desire, however, this has driven me to recommence private tutoring as I am keen to enhance the learning experience for people of all ages. I have a background in French and Spanish with a knowledge of the main conversational phrases and have qualifications up to Higher French and Intermediate 2 Spanish.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach incorporates a variety of resources to suit the needs of each individual in terms of age and level of study and the subject which I am tutoring. For younger children I like to utilise games and online videos as well as books to enhance the learning experience and make the approach to learning as enjoyable as possible.
For Secondary School children, I take a more formal approach to tutoring using books and online resources again subject dependent but always keeping the resources I use as simple and enjoyable as possible. For those Secondary School children studying for exams I find it useful to study past papers of the subjects as well as suggesting online resources for the student to look at in between sessions to help enhance their learning experience. For tutees studying for exams I often set some short study questions at the end of the session to assess their development and progress between sessions leading up to exam time.

For students at University in which I tutor in Biology related subjects, I tailor my tuition to the needs of the individual in terms of their coursework and assignments, I assist their studies by reviewing coursework and making suggestions to enhance coursework i.e. accessing journal articles, providing tips for structuring study times etc.

My goal as a tutor is to make the learning experience for all tutees as enjoyable as possible whilst helping them become more confident in the subject area and ultimately aiding them in overcoming any specific challenges they may be facing. For those tutees who are working towards examinations, my goal is to prepare the individual well and ignite confidence in their ability to be successful.
